Plastic Free Cotgrave

Reducing single-use plastics

About us

Plastic Free Cotgrave is an active group of volunteers who are passionate about reducing single-use plastics, starting with our own community. We have:

  • Set up our Steering group; secured the support of the Town Council; established an invaluable relationship with our first Community Allies, Cotgrave Community Garden; welcomed further Allies: The Patient Participation Group, Cotgrave WI and Cotgrave Community Kitchen. We have welcomed our first 5 Business Champions - Kerry's Fresh, The Simpler Life zero waste shop, Sally Bates Educational Consultant, Sunset Cocktails and Jayne Childs handmade lace gifts and cards.
  • Held public events: How to Do Zero Waste, Awareness-raising at the Garden’s Open Event, litter picks and The Problem with Plastic. We have been interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham.
  • 2 members are involved in a citizen science project to try to find out what the main items of litter are.
  • Presented talks to both the Cotgrave WI and the Patient Participation Group at the Health Centre.
  • Through our website, facebook page and our closed group, we have been able to keep the community informed; we have generated a considerable following.

Community Garden

We have interest from across Cotgrave, with several groups, from the WI, The Patient Participation Group, the U3A (University of the Third Age) to The Community Hub. The Town Council, other groups in Cotgrave and further businesses are now becoming excited about becoming Plastic Free Community Champions (for businesses) and Allies (for schools, organisations and community groups).

In September 2020, Cotgrave Town Council passed a Resolution to give us support in our activities. Cllr Stuart Ellis is our link onto the council and is a member of our Steering Group.
