Green Man Rubbish Sculpture

On 29th and 30th April this fantastic sculpture came into being! Local Sculptor Nick Wright kindly offered his services to create this to highlight the rubbish that is dropped by some people – and to make a unique and eye-catching installation from it.

With support from all three Cotgrave schools and members of the community, rubbish was collected and brought to the Community Garden.

Nick had created a frame (or armature) in advance, anchored to a tree stump.

The children were then able to select materials for the sculpture and decide where to place them.

Many of them became engaged in planting herbs and wildflowers in small plastic pots; these will then grow through and over the sculpture.

Two public litter picks were held in April. In addition, Ash Lea School held a litter pick and the other two schools arranged collection points for the children to bring in items that otherwise would have been recycled.

On Saturday 30th, the Mayor of Rushcliffe (a long-time supporter of Plastic Free Cotgrave) came to officially unveil the sculpture.
